Harrison Municipal Court

  Mr. John A. Kohanski.

Harrison Municipal Court

We are an independent branch of government entrusted with the fair and just resolution of disputes in order to preserve the rule of law and to protect the rights and liberties guaranteed by the Constitution and laws of the United States and this State.

The only Court that most citizens will ever come in contact with is the Municipal Court. Therefore, it is from their experience in the Municipal Courts that most people base their conclusions about the quality of justice in New Jersey.

The Municipal Courts in New Jersey are Courts of limited jurisdiction, having responsibility for motor vehicle violations and parking tickets, disorderly person offenses (for example, simple assault and harassment) and municipal ordinances (such as building code violations, noise complaints). A Municipal Court usually only has jurisdiction over cases that occur within the municipality.

The current Judge of the Harrison Municipal Court is John M. Johnson. The Court Administrator is John A. Kohanski.
