On April 7, 2024, Officer Melendez was patrolling the area on Sixth Street after several complaints of vehicles driving at a high rate of speed. He then observed a vehicle driving the wrong way on a one-way street. He conducted a motor vehicle stop and upon approaching the vehicle, the driver’s eyes were bloodshot and watery, and a strong odor of alcohol was emitting from his breath. Detective Lecca arrived on scene and conducted the Standardized Field Sobriety Test on the driver where he was unable to complete any of the tests satisfactorily. The driver was subsequently placed under arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol. At headquarters, he agreed to submit to samples of his breath for analysis where he had a blood alcohol content of 0.20%. He was later released to a responsible party as per John’s Law.
