On October 5 at 3AM, Officer Michael Gregory conducted a motor vehicle stop for a moving violation. Upon advising the driver of the violation and requesting the appropriate identification, the driver requested permission to enter the glove compartment and volunteered the fact that he had a loaded gun in the vehicle. Officer Gregory asked the driver to exit the vehicle and Sgt. John Brown, Officers Pat Triano and Elizabeth DeLacruz arrived as back-up. The driver, a 25 year old resident of Virginia did in fact have a loaded handgun in the vehicle. He explained that he had a ‘permit to carry’ in his home state. Unfortunately, those laws don’t carry over from state to state. He was advised of the laws in this state and was charged appropriately for the firearms laws he had violated.
