On November 20 at 9AM, a resident received a phone call from someone claiming to be a representative of the Harrison Police. The number on the caller ID actually indicated the call was coming from 973-483-4100 (the current non-emergency number at dispatch). The caller identified himself as Officer Shaw and asked for personal information. The Harrison Police does not employ an Officer Shaw.
The enterprise of fraud is very sophisticated and those that perpetrate these crimes are constantly changing the way they operate. If something doesn’t sound right over the telephone, simply hang up and contact your local police by dialing the number yourself. No member of the Harrison Police Department would contact you via telephone and demand personal information. If you were the legitimate target of an investigation, we would provide you with contact information that you could verify or visit you in person.
