On December 7 at 5PM, a Franklin Avenue resident received a call from someone claiming to be from the Social Security Administration. The caller claimed the victim’s information was used to purchase a home in Texas and there were legal problems with the property. The caller insisted that the victim provide her social security number and draw money from her account in order to satisfy the legal issues. Although she provided her social security number, she hung up before the call progressed any further.
Residents are reminded never to provide this type of information over the phone unless they initiated the call. No one from a legitimate government office would demand that a citizen withdraw money or satisfy fines over the phone.
