On March 4 at 12PM, a Harrison resident received a call from someone claiming to a representative of PSE&G. The caller indicated that the resident was behind on his electric bill and was required to make payment immediately to avoid his service being terminated. He was instructed to pay $1,500 in Green Dot Gift Card (a popular form of payment often exploited in scams). Unfortunately, he complied with the directions.
Residents are reminded this is a popular scam. Someone claiming to be from a utility company will suggest that you are delinquent and provide options for you to pay the alleged debt. The best course of action if you are unsure, is to hang up and call the number you have on file from your paper or online bill.
